My experience has proved that when it comes to winter base layers it’s hard to beat the benefits of good old-fashioned wool – but the problem with wool is that although it performs well under normal circumstances it doesn’t handle the requirements of high performance quite so well. For this reason we have used a new technology – called NuYarn – essentially a nylon core wrapped with merino wool which makes up 15% of the overall material which makes the fabric comfier, stretchier, drier, warmer, stronger and tougher than normal wool. It's surprisingly light for its warmth, and warm for its weight. The traditional downsides of wool – stretching and twisting with age – have been eradicated.

It's designed for cool weather riding and is to be worn directly against the skin where it works as a great wicking first layer. We've designed it more like a classic sweatshirt than a tech piece. This is because during my racing years I would often wear my SSWBLs off the bike, for this reason we added design details to the CHPT3 SSWBL that enable it to be worn off the bike as well as on it. The cut is close-to-body but not skin tight, after all, it's too good to be used just for cycling.

Every area is enhanced:
  • 35% lower density fabric
  • 35% stretchier, retains shape over time, even after washing
  • 5 x faster at drying, due to the fact the nylon core will not absorb as much water
  • 35% warmer due to its lower density, lighter and loftier fabric, which also gives it a 53% increase in wind resistance
  • 47% stronger, making it much more durable and resistant to abrasion
  • 120% tougher seams

CHPT3 bespoke clothing uses a tailoring system for its sizes. We use the physical chest or waist size as the garment size - If you have a 40" chest you need a 40" Jersey - Please note while the CHPT3 range is not designed for racing it is still a close fitting athletic design suitable for active cyclists.

It is designed for two uses, and with that comes two sizes, pure performance downsize e.g. if 40" is your chest measurement (A) then you will need a 39" for as a purely performance base layer. If on the other hand you would like to wear it on AND off the bike then we recommend you upsize one e.g. if 40" is your chest measurement (A) then we recommend you wear a 41".
